The route is suitable for active hikers or cyclists who want to explore the valley of the most impressive river in the Baltic States. The route leads through the Gauja National Park.
Lengths of the hiking trail: ~ 30 km; ~ 10 hours if hiking; ~ 4-5 hours if cycling
Description of the route: For pedestrians: Sigulda Train Station (Station Square) – Raina Street – Livkalna Street – Paradise/Painters` Hill – Vejupite Gorge – Ligatne Nature Trails – Gaujas Street – Darza Street – Springu Street – Ligatne Tourism Information Center.
Cyclists ride along Gaujas Street in Sigulda and before the bridge over Gauja turn right onto a gravel road, which is a continuation of the Ligatne cycle path.
Level of difficulty: Medium to difficult. It will take some effort to overpass certain sections (deep river gorges).
Recommended time: May – October. The route can also be used at other times of the year, including on beautiful winter days when the snow cover is thin because forest and gravel paths are not cleaned.
Road surface: Mainly forest roads, gravel roads, paths, asphalt in Sigulda and Ligatne.
