Pick your ride

Adventure Seeker is the classic choice and the one most visitors book. It is long enough to feel the speed and the silence of the forest, and short enough to suit almost everyone.

Expedition Hunter is for those who want a proper long run. It depends on perfect snow and weather, so it cannot be guaranteed. If conditions are not right on the day, the ride switches to the Adventure Seeker (~ 3.5 km) distance.

Families with small children are offered the Adventure Seeker (~ 3.5 km) distance only.

How the ride works

After a short briefing, you choose your role: stand at the back of the sled and drive the team yourself, or sit back under the blanket and enjoy the view. You do not need any experience.

Each sled is made for two people, and two sleds run on the trail at the same time, so up to 4 people can ride together. At the turning point, you will be asked if you want to swap, so both of you can try driving and riding.

Where it takes place

The husky farm and trail are located about 30 km (a 30-minute drive) from Sigulda, surrounded by the forests of the Gauja National Park area. The exact location is shared after booking.

The trail

The route follows an old railway line through the forest. You ride out to a turning point and return the same way, either about ~3.5 km in total or about ~ 7-8 km in total. Sections of the trail can thaw on warm, sunny days, so the longer route sometimes shortens to around 3.5 km.

Approximate ride times

• 3-3.5 km: 15–30 minutes
• 7-8 km: 30–60 minutes

Times depend on snow depth and surface, and on how eager the dogs are that day.

No snow? The huskies still run

Rides are not cancelled because of a lack of snow, only in truly bad weather. When the ground is bare, the huskies pull a specially built wheeled sled (a dog cart) instead. The dogs, the stories, the photos and the warm drinks stay the same. The group takes turns on one cart, and the whole visit lasts up to 1.5 hours including waiting. Only the standard distance is available.

What to wear

You will be outdoors, so dress warmly and comfortably. Sporty clothing, gloves, a hat and a scarf are all good ideas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to drive a dog sled?
No experience is needed. A musher gives a short briefing before the ride, and an instructor is right next to you on the trail if you need any help.
